My Orange debit card arrived

December 16th, 2009 at 03:30 am

and so far I only have one signature purchase, even though I used it everywhere including Target where I spent $166.00 on Toys for Tots.

Anyone know what the trick is? I am afraid I am not going to get enough signatures for my bonus because the one signature was for a huge amount of money (new Riccar vaccum).

The girls will all be home for Christmas (hopefully my YD, SIL and granddaughter will arrive in time) and I am looking foward to that.

I received a surprise bonus for over $500.00 from my work last week along with my regular paycheck stub (direct deposit).

My SIL is not deploying after all. Unfortunately the kids just finished selling or giving way almost every possession since YD and granddaughter were moving in with us for the year. So they are starting over. They are still coming for Christmas and SIL will be flying back to SC, but daughter and granddaughter will stay here for a few months in order to build up their savings.

Carpets were cleaned today, house is shaping up pretty good with all the stuff we have gotten rid of, which is nice.

What do you mean by saying you used it everywhere and just had one signature purchase? Do you mean that was the only place that you actually signed for the purchase, but you used it as a debit card elsewhere? Or did you sign a lot of places but it only shows one on your account. You're making me nervous now....I want to make sure I have enough for the bonus too!

You need to tell them you want it used as a credit, so you can sign for your purchases. If you use it as a debit card, it just deducts the money, but as a credit card, you need to sign the transaction. Just because it says debit on the card doesn't mean you can use it as a credit card.

    I hope this helps.

Okay I knew that about credit instead of debit, but the weird thing is the little machines didn't ask if it was debit or credit, it just processed it. Maybe I said I am using a debit card and the checker did something that made the little machine not bring up credit. I know Safeway gives the option of debit or credit on the little machine, so I will go there, even though I hate to. Yes I only had to physically sign for one purchase. Like my husband said, how do they know we signed. He has a business they sign the receipt and he doesn't send the receipts in to show a customer signed.... it is confusing. I guess I could get my car washed 3 times and that would be enough...

No, the machine usually always brings up debit, you need to tell the cashier and she will prompt the machine for you. Tell the cashier next time that you want you card as a credit and see if that helps.

Target was one of the places I used my ING debit card toward getting the bonus. I told the cashier I wanted it run as credit and I think he pushed a button to make it do so. Anyway, I did actually leave an electronic signature....My other two signature uses were at small specialty grocers. For some reason they just ran it as credit automatically, though I did not physically sign anything. However, in looking at my account, I see that all three of these are showing up as signature transactions.

Forgot to say--- Your ING account should show a little purple ball point pen next to the record of the transaction if they've run it as a signature-based purchase. So maybe check and see if they have already done that on any of your purchases.

Ditto to what everyone else said - another quick way is to use the card at gas pumps (auto credit/sig).

Because debit is generally the default, you need to press "cancel" after swiping the card and it should then proceed with a credit transaction, requiring signature. Some machines are a little different so just ask at each place you use it.

I have another debit card that I always run as credit because I (intentionally) decided I didn't want another PIN to remember. Glad to hear that's all I have to do with this one. I did want to add that some places don't have you sign at all if it's under a certain dollar amount. I think McDonalds is set up that way.

Wow thanks for all the feedback. I looked at my account and I actually have the little purple pin next to Starbucks. I allow myself a treat on Friday on the way to work if I stick to my diet during the week. I used it at the drive through and did not sign, weird huh?

So that will take care of it right there, since I have what, 3-4 more Fridays before the deadline?

    Again, thank you everyone!
